The European Commission has at last published its long awaited Communication on the implementation and impact of the PSI Directive.

PRIMET has influenced both these documents and some of the evidence that we have submitted and poublished has been cited in the documents. The Meteorological Sector has been well covered and quite fully analysed. It is again clear that very large opportunities to create business and generate wealth are being missed in meteorology and many other sectors.

The Commission proposes a number of further actions in relation to the continued operation of the Directive. Their proposed actions are, however, reactive rather than proactive and it will be important to ensure that their attention is drawn in the future to cases in which the the provisions of the DIrective are not fully or correctly applied or where a less restrictive approach from PSI holders could result in wider economic benefits. PRIMET will continue to do this for the meteorological sector and members are urged to ensure that potential cases are notified to the General secretary.
